Daitoku-ji is a collection of subtemples, only a few of which are open to the public. Those few subtemples, however, have among them some very "beautiful," if that is the appropriate word, zen gardens that are easily a match for the more famous Ryoan-ji. You actually can contemplate them at Daitoku-ji, since the crowds are much smaller, and you might have the chance to talk to a monk. Also on site is a wonderful temple food (vegetarian) restaurant.

(Report Problem)Among the most balanced and varied of all Zen gardens in Kyoto. Especially powerful in Fall. The rooms of the tea ceremony master are really moving in their simplicity and proportion.
